Lessons
My standard lessons for ages 6 and above are $40 and run roughly an hour. If you are right on the edge of getting something, I don't stop by the clock so lessons sometimes go longer. Horses don't wear watches and they don't have calendars in their stalls. There is a $5 per lesson discount if you take more than one lesson a week or if you have two or more students. If you pay for the entire month's lessons at one time (at least 4 lessons), you receive a $20 discount. Some lessons will be groundwork, some will be riding, rainy days are used for teaching tack cleaning and repair, saddle fit, understanding bits, using clippers, and much more. Sometimes we will go on trail rides. If you have a younger child who accompanies an older sibling for a lesson I am happy to toss them up on the horse at the end of the lesson and lead them a few times around the ring at no charge.
For the horse lover under the age of 6, I offer mini lessons for $25. These lessons are shorter because most youngsters don't have the attention span to handle a full lesson. I do not believe in forcing a student to stay on a horse and when a youngster has had enough, they know it. I honor that. When the subject turns to Cinderella or Dora and I can't get it back onto the horse, it is time to head to the barn. If youngsters want to help groom, saddle, and bathe the horse, they can. Yes, I often get wet until they perfect their hose skills! They will learn some groundwork as appropriate for them individually. Because of the low rates for the mini lessons I don't offer any discounts on them.
If you want a lesson with your horse at your barn, the price depends on how far I have to drive. The price is $50 an hour for local barns. There is a trip charge for barns more than 15 minutes from me. I WILL NOT TEACH STUDENTS WHO ARE DISRESPECTFUL OR WHO DO NOT WANT TO LEARN. NOR WILL I TEACH STUDENTS WHO SIMPLY WANT TO CLIMB ON AND GO FAST. GET A MOTORCYCLE INSTEAD. If you love horses and want to learn about them, contact me at appliedhorsesense.com. Or call Mandy at 727-434-0802.
ALL STUDENTS UNDER THE AGE OF 18 MUST WEAR A HELMET. Kids, your head is not as hard as your parents think it is.
